Taking certain HIV medicines as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) can lower your risk of sexually transmitted HIV by more than 90%. If you are in an ongoing relationship with a partner who has HIV, have sex without a condom with someone who could have HIV, and/or inject drugs or share drug equipment, you are at high risk of HIV and may want to consider this approach to PrEP.
